ABOUT THE ROLE
CARE Singapore will be implementing a new community mental health programme providing mentoring training in improving youths’ ability to manage, regulate, and direct emotions toward positive outcomes. This programme is targeted at youths requiring some mental health support, especially those experiencing risk factors such as family dysfunction or poor peer relations, etc.
A Youth Worker will support the running of this mentoring programme, including screening, training, and engaging with both volunteer mentors and clients. Working as a team, they will also engage with external stakeholders such as during experiential activities to provide holistic support to clients. The key responsibilities and expected competencies of a Youth Worker are:

Screening and recruitment of volunteer mentors and youth participants

Screening participants and volunteers per mental health assessments to ensure they meet inclusion criteria

Conducting interviews to screen volunteers

Simple data management

Volunteer Training and Skill Competency

Conducting volunteer training sessions on mental health programming & facilitation skills

Designing small groups among volunteers to share tips and debrief

Answering queries from volunteers about the programme

Client Engagement

Using existing evidence-based content and contextualising it for use among volunteers to implement small group sessions

Conducting experiential activities for clients with volunteers, e.g., visits to corporate offices, sports, etc.

Checking in routinely with clients to address any concerns and improve programme

Basic counselling and crisis management, if required

And any other duties that may reasonably be required

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
Technical Competencies:

Degree in youth work, counselling, psychology, or social work, with at least 3 years’ relevant experience

Working with youths, especially older youths (>18)

Working with & training volunteers

Skills in online engagement tools, e.g., social media, surveys, etc.

Basic counselling and crisis management

Basic administrative skills on Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Conversant in English, additional languages such as Chinese, Malay, or Tamil advantageous

Occasional out-of-hours work may be required
